Tare
This is the waist and upper leg guard. It consists of five
flaps of stiff stitched cotton, and a wide belt to which are
attached two himo. It is placed against the waist and the Himo
are crossed over around the back then brought around the front
and tied in a bow under the centre flap.
The Tare protects the groin, waist and upper thighs and the flaps
allow freedom of leg movement. As with the Do, the tare may be
elaborately embroidered.
