Do Shin Ken Yu Kai - means "the friendly association for
improving the spirit and character through using the sword". The
Club practices the ancient Japanese martial arts of Kendo, Iaido,
Jodo, and Kenjutsu. There are several branches of the club, in both Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Addresses and other details of these are on the contacts page.
The purpose of this website is to introduce the reader to the art
of Kendo - including its history, etiquette, language, ideals,
techniques, costume and equipment - its relevance in modern
society, both as a martial art and a disciplined modern sport,
and to raise the profile of the club and Kendo as a whole.
Dojo Leader for Kendo at Halifax, the founding branch of the club,
is Gary ODonnell, a 6th Dan and
MADEC coach award holder who has been practicing Kendo for over
20 years. Dojo Leader for Iai and Jodo is Keith Rose. Newcomers to the club will
find a friendly atmosphere of people of all ages, grades and abilities.
