It is suggested that you first come to observe a session.

Juniors should be at least 13 years old and all juniors under 18 must initially be accompanied by an adult. Please read our MISSION STATEMENT

If you want to do kendo it will be necessary for insurance purposes to take out a temporary membership of the BRITISH KENDO ASSOCIATION

A temporary membership will cost £10.00 and will provide insurance cover and limited membership rights for 3 months. Thereafter it will be necessary to upgrade to a full membership in order to continue training. Please download and complete a membership form and bring it to your first training session or ask for a form when you arrive.

Currently we do not offer a specific beginners practice, however the period from 8.30pm until 10.00pm is set aside for fundamental practice. Kendo is done in bare feet, and you should wear loose/comfortable clothing.

Club Membership

All DSKYK Members must be members of the BRITISH KENDO ASSOCIATION

All members pay a membership fee of £10 at the start of each month. For new beginners this is payable on the first evening they participate in training. On your first night you need not pay the usual £3.00 training fee.

Senior members 18+ pay an additional £8.00 per month, paid by cheque or standing order at the beginning of the month (Total £18.00 including the £10.00 membership fee), or alternatively the membership fee then £3.00 training fee each time they attend a practice.

Junior and concessionary members pay only the £10.00 membership fee.

Members may borrow shinai and bokuto (Wooden and Bamboo swords for training).
Members who have gained sufficient experience and are correctly attired (Hakama & Keikogi) may borrow club armour.

Before the start of the practice all participants are required to complete the attendance register.

Much of what you will need to know in order to participate in a kendo practice at DSKYK can be found on our website please familiarise yourself with the training schedule etc. Beginners are welcome to stay and watch the remainder of the practice and also to accompany us to the second Dojo for socialising after the practice."
